Lochgelly in Fife, Scotland has the cheapest property prices
- a typical home costing £104,738, according to the Halifax.
Northern Ireland is the latest star of the property boom with prices
rising 76% since the beginning of 2005. It’s reaping the benefit of
the peace dividend and playing catch up with the rest of the nation.
The ten towns with the largest increase in prices in the last year
are all in Northern Ireland.
In other parts of the UK there still remains the north south divide.
Homes in London saw the average the price of a home increase by
14.9% in 2006 with properties in the north rising by only 5.6%.
However the Halifax does expect tougher conditions in the housing
market for the rest of this year as higher interest rates, bigger
council tax bills and negative earnings growth take their effect.
