Kerb appeal attract buyers

As soon as you decide to put your property on the market the first thing you should do is take a walk to the other side of the road. From this fresh perspective you should take a look at your home through unbiased eyes. This is what your potential buyers will see and will be the image placed in the estate agent's window, competing with all the rest to attract a viewing.

First impressions count – so an unkempt, dowdy looking property is not going to get buyers over the threshold, however good it may be inside. The only interest you’re likely to get is that from developers looking to buy your home for a knock down price.

It doesn’t necessarily take a lot of expense or effort to achieve good kerb appeal – just think clean, neat and tidy. Cut the grass, pull up the weeds and plant some flowers. If you haven’t a front garden then how about some pots or hanging baskets? Clear away any clutter and hide the wheelie-bin round the back. Where necessary, give woodwork a fresh lick of paint and clean those dirty windows – it’s really is amazing the difference a drop of water can make.

Last but not least, ditch that flaking, illegible house name or number and invest in a new one. You’re not going to get many viewings if potential purchasers can’t find your home.
