This hotel sign has now seen better days. The main problem being that the once clear varnish used to protect the gold paint from tarnishing has succumbed to the dreaded UV and turned a nasty shade of brown. The ironwork scrolls on top of the mounting post are nicely proportioned, however, the same can’t be said for the flourish below "West Royd". It seems rather clumsy and out of balance. For all its weathered charm, this hotel sign needs replacing – it sends out the wrong signals to potential customers. The two rings at the bottom of the sign are obviously for an additional board reading "No Vacancies". If you have a sign like this advertising your business, those rings aren’t going to get a lot of use. |
